Dr María Jesús Pinazo

Head of Chagas disease, DNDi

Dr María Jesús Pinazo joined DNDi in January 2022 as Head of Chagas disease.

María Jesús is a Spanish physician, working since 2007 as a medical doctor between Barcelona and Bolivia; her main line of work and research is tropical and imported diseases, including Chagas disease. In 2016 Maria Jesus gained a PhD in Internal Medicine from the University of Barcelona, with international mention and Cum Laude rating, and was awarded the extraordinary doctorate award in 2017.  After finishing her specialty in Internal Medicine, she started working in Chagas Disease at the International Health Service of the Hospital Clinic in Barcelona.   

In addition, she served as a professor at the Master’s in International Health, co-coordinated the protocol for the detection and diagnosis of Chagas in pregnant women and their babies in Latin America, and acts as technical coordinator of the Platform for Comprehensive Care for the Patient of Chagas in Bolivia and in Paraguay.  She joined the New Tools for the Diagnosis and Assessment of the Chagas Patient (NHEPACHA) international network as a member in 2011 and became its coordinator in 2019.

María Jesús speaks English and French fluently, in addition to her native Spanish.
