Clinical Research Malaysia (CRM) mewakili Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia bergabung tenaga dengan sebuah organisasi antarabangsa penyelidikan dan pembangunan tidak berasaskan keuntungan, Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative (DNDi), dalam kerjasama yang bertujuan untuk membangunkan rawatan yang selamat, berpatutan harga dan berkesan untuk demam denggi.

Melalui perjanjian ini, Malaysia menyertai pakatan perkongsian denggi global yang diterajui oleh negara-negara endemik denggi melalui ‘South-South collaboration’ untuk menjalankan kajian praklinikal dan ujian klinikal, yang bertujuan untuk membangunkan rawatan yang berpatutan harga dan boleh diakses dalam tempoh lima tahun.

DNDi dan CRM akan bekerjasama dengan institut penyelidikan terkemuka di Malaysia seperti Institut Penyelidikan Klinikal (ICR) dan Institut Penyelidikan Perubatan (IMR) dalam projek untuk memajukan penyiasatan praklinikal bagi rawatan yang berpotensi, menguji keberkesanan calon ubat ‘repurpose drug’ dan melaksanakan ujian klinikal atas ubat yang paling berpotensi. Pada masa yang sama, ia akan menyelaraskan usaha untuk membantu mengatasi jurang pengetahuan dan mempercepatkan penyelidikan klinikal untuk menangani kekurangan rawatan untuk wabak denggi. Perkongsian ini akan bekerjasama untuk menyalurkan sumber, berkongsi pengetahuan penyelidikan dan menangani jurang kos pembiayaan.

Lebih daripada 70% beban wabak denggi di dunia adalah tertumpu di Asia dimana wabak denggi yang serius  menjadi punca utama kemasukan ke hospital dan kematian di kalangan kanak-kanak dan orang dewasa. Malaysia telah melaksanakan beberapa strategi kawalan vektor untuk mencegah penularan denggi dan mengawal wabak. Walaupun penyelidikan dan pembangunan meluas untuk rawatan dan vaksin demam denggi, penyelesaian yang berkesan untuk penyakit itu belum dicapai.

“Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia berhasrat untuk meneruskan usaha kami dalam inisiatif pencegahan yang dapat memantapkan persediaan kami terhadap wabak denggi, serta menyingkirkan penyakit endemik denggi ini menjelang tahun 2030. Di antara banyak usaha ini yang diterajui oleh kementerian, KKM berminat dalam menyambung hubungan kerjasama dengan DNDi, di mana DNDi sebelum ini telah berjaya bersama dengan negara-negara membangun seperti Malaysia dalam menghasilkan rawatan jangkitan hepatitis C yang efektif, selamat digunakan serta harga yang berpatutan.”, kata YB Khairy Jamaluddin, Menteri Kesihatan Malaysia.

Mengenai CRM

Ditubuhkan oleh Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia pada tahun 2012, CRM wujud untuk meningkatkan penyelesaian masalah kesihatan global untuk masa depan yang lebih cerah dengan menyediakan sokongan penyelidikan klinikal yang pantas dan boleh dipercayai untuk kajian kualiti. Dengan pemahaman CRM terhadap landskap penyelidikan klinikal tempatan dengan standard operasi antarabangsa, ditambah dengan sokongan asas kementerian-kementerian kerajaan, kami mempunyai kelebihan yang tiada tandingan untuk bekerjasama dengan rakan kongsi bermula dari peringkat awal dan memperkembang sehinggi menjadi produk akhir, demi menyampaikan rawatan yang lebih baik dan peluang pekerjaan yang berkemahiran tinggi. www.clinicalresearch.my

Mengenai DNDi

Sebagai sebuah organisasi penyelidikan dan pembangunan tidak berasaskan keuntungan, DNDi berusaha untuk memberikan akses kepada rawatan baru untuk pesakit yang terabai, mereka yang hidup dengan penyakit Chagas, ‘penyakit tidur’ (Human African trypanosomiasis), leismaniasis, jangkitan filaria, misetoma, HIV pediatrik, dan hepatitis C. DNDi juga bertindak sebagai penyelaras ujian klinikal ANTICOV untuk mencari rawatan bagi penyakit COVID-19 ringan hingga sederhana di Afrika. Sejak ditubuhkan pada tahun 2003, DNDi telah mendatangkan sembilan rawatan baru hingga kini, termasuk kombinasi ubat baru untuk kala-azar, ubat antimalaria dua dos tetap, dan entiti kimia pertama yang dihasilkan oleh DNDi, fexinidazole, yang diluluskan pada tahun 2018 untuk rawatan ‘penyakit tidur’ bagi kedua-dua peringkat. dndi.org
