Strengthening health research capacity: The role of research platforms in Chagas disease and leishmaniasis

Physis

by Mendes da Silva R, Moulin Maciel de Vasconcelos D, Nacif Antunes M, da Silva Antunes R, Lopes Nunes Galvão D, Lucia Luiza V. Physis 2026; 36(01). doi:10.1590/S0103-733120263601533en

Summary:

The authors of this study analyzed two clinical research platforms aimed at strengthening health research capacity, focused on Chagas disease and cutaneous leishmaniasis. They used a qualitative and exploratory approach to analyze interviews with key stakeholders about the platforms’ operations. While they found strengths in terms of information exchange, knowledge transfer and translation, and reliability of the generated knowledge, challenges remain in decision-making and governance processes. Initiatives that strengthen research capacity in low- and middle-income countries are central to a sustainable model directed toward health needs.
