The Communications team develops and implements the global communications and visibility strategy. It aims for DNDi to be seen as a unique, relevant, and impactful project, and visibly supported by powerful champions at the global and regional level, and within influential constituencies.
Purpose of position
The Senior Digital Communications Officer is responsible for creating compelling, engaging, and accurate digital communications material and animating digital communications channels to reach and interact with key audiences for DNDi.
This role is focused on running DNDi’s corporate social media channels in English (currently LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, X, and YouTube) and supporting executive management personal social media channels. Responsibilities include planning, creating, editing, and disseminating content for DNDi’s social media channels, as well as setting up campaigns and engaging audiences online.
The role is part of a broader team that contributes to DNDi digital communications output, and under the guidance of the Digital Communications Manager, will work closely with other Communications team members based in DNDi offices in Japan, Malaysia, India, Kenya, DRC, South Africa, Brazil, and New York to commission, source, and support the creation and digital dissemination of stories about neglected patients and the innovative ways we are developing treatments to improve their lives.
As the sole Europe-based social media function, the role will also work with Geneva-based R&D colleagues and senior management to produce content (reels, photos, factoids, etc.) for digital dissemination.
Specific job responsibilities
Social media
Social media channel & community management (70%)
- Prepare and post a daily stream of content that is customized for different social media channels and audiences. Organize daily posting as per the overall social media editorial plan set by the Digital Communications Manager and colleagues in Europe, Africa, Asia, Asia, and the Americas
- Interact with social media audiences and rapidly respond to messages received on social media channels, coordinating with team members for their input as needed
- Monitor digital channels for messages that could impact DNDi reputation or activities.
- Monitor digital trends and learn from other experts and organizations.
- Produce ad-hoc and regular social media reporting to measure and learn from social media activities, measure the impact of campaigns, and report back to specific stakeholders e.g. donors
- Contribute to the selection and management of tools for social media production and management
- Contribute to social media training, guideline documentation, and advising of staff professional social media use, including supporting staff who have the potential to build an influential voice online.
Campaigns & content creation (30%)
- Support the planning, creation, and implementation of social media campaigns and content series in collaboration with colleagues to target key audiences.
- Write post texts, create simple graphics, and compile short social media videos using tools such as Canva
- Work closely with the content, media, and corporate teams and potentially service providers to create and adapt more complex video, animations, long-form stories, and graphics for posting on social channels.
- Lead on photography and filming for social media in the Geneva office, e.g. capturing short videos on phone.
- Encourage engagement with DNDi during campaigns, such as by supporting the production of content packages for sharing with partners and donors, encouraging user-generated content, running polls, posting stories, and implementing paid tactics, etc.
- Propose content and ideas to start conversations and amplify the reach of DNDi messages and campaigns, such as collaborating with content creators, interacting with other accounts, setting up live conversations (e.g. X spaces), running quizzes, offering filters, etc.
- Lead on the Geneva team’s use of the Digital Asset Management (DAM) photo and video library by uploading, tagging, and organizing files in online databases and DNDi network drives for shoots and content collected in Geneva.
- Contribute to coordinating and organizing photo and video shoots while ensuring ethical standards are upheld and controlling quality.
- Contribute to providing guidance to photographer and videographers before shoots.
Other general tasks
- Assist in answering of email queries and support other digital dissemination tasks in the absence of the Comms Admin Assistant.
- Support website updates in the absence of the Web Manager.
- Support the Digital Communications Manager and Communications team with other tasks as required.

Reporting line
- The Senior Digital Communications Officer will be based in Geneva and will report to the Digital Communications Manager based in Latin America or one of the African DNDi offices.
Interactions
- This role interacts closely with other members of the Communications Team in all DNDi offices, as well as the DNDi Executive Director for his individual social channels and, on occasion, other DNDi teams to provide solutions to their digital needs (e.g. HR, Fundraising)
- Collaborators, counterparts, and service providers are mainly in the functional area in and outside DNDi to get information, guidance, and feedback or to enlist cooperation. This role has an external role focusing on exchanges on information and work with suppliers or officer level staff of partners and donors

Experience
- Minimum 6 years’ relevant experience in which at least 3 years at Officer level or equivalent
- Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment and matrix structure
- Experience of working in public and private sector is highly desirable
Education
- Graduate or post graduate degree
