Enquanto o número de mortos por Covid-19 no Brasil supera os 230 mil e os esforços e desafios da vacinação ganham as manchetes dos jornais, um dia dedicado às doenças esquecidas passou quase despercebido. O 30 de janeiro foi escolhido para marcar o Dia Mundial das Doenças Negligenciadas, um conjunto de 20 patologias que afetam 1,7 bilhão de pessoas no mundo, causando sofrimento e morte sobretudo entre as populações mais pobres. Nessa mesma semana, a Organização Mundial da Saúde (OMS) lançou um plano de enfrentamento global com estratégias para controle, eliminação e erradicação das doenças negligenciadas em dez anos. É, sem dúvida, um passo importante no combate a essas doenças, que traz consigo enormes desafios.
