In India, ASHA health workers like Shishu are the link between the villagers and the health system: they educate people about visceral leishmaniasis, motivate and accompany those with symptoms to go get tested and treated at the primary health centres. 'Visceral leishmaniasis can be eliminated with everyone's support,' hopes Shishu. DNDi is working to develop an oral treatment to ensure sustainable elimination of this neglected disease.
