Article 7 of the Paris Agreement established the Global Goal on Adaptation of ‘enhancing adaptive capacity, strengthening resilience and reducing vulnerability to climate change, with a view to contributing to sustainable development and ensuring an adequate response in the context of the temperature goal’.
The framework of the Global Goal on Adaptation adopted at COP28 contains a dedicated health target of ‘attaining resilience against climate change related health impacts, promoting climate resilient health services, and significantly reducing climate related morbidity and mortality, particularly in the most vulnerable communities’ by 2030 and beyond. In this submission on the UAE – Belém work programme, DNDi recommends the development and adoption of specific health metrics for climate-sensitive diseases as part of the Global Goal on Adaptation and offers suggestions for areas that must be considered.
