Summary: The authors of this article review the literature and discuss the unique circumstances of Chagas disease in Florida. This state has the third highest estimated burden of Chagas disease in the USA, although the true prevalence is unknown. ‘Kissing bugs’ that harbour Trypanosoma cruzi, the causative agent of Chagas disease, are native to the region and are invading homes. Florida is an opportune region of the USA to study Chagas disease, due to its endemic transmission cycles and the disease burden in a diverse population orginally from Chagas-endemic regions.
