In this Special Issue, room is given to key research questions about understanding communities’ beliefs, needs, and approaches. Topics covered include long-term infection and animal reservoirs, approaches to disease control, the contribution of partners, the development of new drug classes, treatment breakthroughs, and the potential future treatment portfolio. DNDi authors contributed to two articles Innovative partnerships for the elimination of human African trypanosomiasis and the development of fexinidazole and How clinical research can contribute to strengthening health systems in low resource countries.
