Interim Director, Access Accelerated
Martin Bernhardt is the Interim Director of Access Accelerated where he leads overall strategy and implementation for this multi-year global partnership, working towards the UN Sustainable Development Goal target to reduce premature deaths from NCDs. Martin was appointed this role in 2022, after chairing the Steering Committee of this initiative from 2018 to 2020.
Martin is a lecturer at the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Geneva University, responsible for the module “Health systems, law and economy”. An Economic and Social Scientist by training, with specialisation in Pharmacoeconomics, Martin has over 20 years’ experience in the pharmaceutical industry, with key responsibilities in market access and public affairs. He was Head of Public Affairs Global Health at Sanofi until 2021, heading the relations with the World Health Organisation, the Global Fund, and other global institutions. Prior to joining the pharmaceutical industry, he led research in Health System Science at the Laboratory of Applied Economics, Geneva University.
Focused on improving global access to quality healthcare, Martin is a member of the Geneva University Global Pharmacy Commission. Until 2021 he was also co-chair of the NCD Alliance Supporters Group and a member of the Global Fund Private Sector Delegation.
