Director, ICMR-National Institute of Malaria Research, and Director-in-Charge, National Institute of Biologicals
Dr Anup Anvikar is a microbiologist with over 25 years of experience in research. He has worked as a teacher and scientist in different medical schools and research institutes, and has also been the director of two institutes.
Dr Anvikar’s research focus has been on improving the diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases including the development and quality assurance of diagnostics for malaria, chikungunya, and dengue. He implemented the quality assurance programme for malaria rapid diagnostic tests in India. He rolled out clinical trials of antimalarials and several operational research studies on malaria control. His research led to a malaria elimination model, which was scaled up to cover an entire state in India.
At the National Institute of Biologicals, he worked on expanding the portfolio of life-saving biologicals tested for their quality, as well as strengthening the academic and research activities. He also worked towards reducing the turnaround time to promote the timely access of quality biological products.
