New York – June 14, 2014 – The Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative (DNDi) wishes to extend its deepest condolences to the Rockefeller Family for the tragic loss of Dr. Richard Rockefeller, who was killed in a plane crash the morning of June 13.
Dr. Rockefeller was instrumental in the creation and launch of DNDi in 2003, as part of his long-standing commitment to Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), and in particular its efforts to secure access to essential medicines for people in developing countries. Dr. Rockefeller was a treasured friend of many in DNDi. He was an advisor, supporter, and advocate for us, and we are extremely honored to have worked closely with him. We deeply admired Dr. Rockefeller and his dedication to the alleviation of human suffering, including his strong support for urgently needed research and development for neglected patients. We are deeply saddened by Dr. Rockefeller’s loss, and our thoughts are with his family at this time.
