‘Es un verdadero honor para DNDi recibir el prestigioso Premio Princesa de Asturias. Encontrarnos entre tan ilustres compañeros/as galardonados/as es verdaderamente un privilegio extraordinario. Queremos agradecer al Jurado y a la Fundación Princesa de Asturias por dar una visibilidad tan destacada a las millones de personas en todo el mundo que son desatendidas por la investigación farmacéutica tradicional. Nos gustaría también agradecer de manera muy especial a la Real Academia Nacional de Medicina de España por su apoyo a nuestra candidatura.

Este premio excepcional llega en un momento especial para nuestra organización, que este año celebra su vigésimo aniversario. Junto con nuestros socios, hemos desarrollado 12 nuevos tratamientos para las poblaciones más desatendidas del mundo y hemos demostrado que un modelo alternativo sin fines de lucro de investigación y desarrollo farmacéutico puede salvar millones de vidas.

Estamos particularmente orgullosos/as de los exitosos programas de investigación que hemos establecido con instituciones médicas líderes en España y América Latina, todos aliados/as esenciales en nuestro trabajo para descubrir y desarrollar nuevos medicamentos contra enfermedades devastadoras, como el Chagas y la leishmaniasis, que continúan causando el enorme sufrimiento de millones de personas.

Nos gustaría agradecer a todos nuestros socios, sin los cuales no podríamos haber logrado tal progreso. Y continuaremos trabajando juntos, particularmente en enfermedades infecciosas sensibles al cambio climático, como el dengue, que se está extendiendo rápidamente a nuevas áreas, incluso en América Latina y el sur de Europa, y para la cual, lamentablemente, todavía no hay tratamiento específico.’
