La Guinée a vaincu la maladie du sommeil

Ce reportage publié le 28 mars 2025 par T, le magazine du Temps, explique comment la Guinée a réussi à éliminer la maladie du sommeil en tant que problème de santé publique. Un succès historique en grande partie dû à la science : les nouveaux médicaments développés par DNDi et les pièges à mouches tsé-tsé mis au point par nos partenaires de l’IRD y ont joué un rôle crucial.

La journaliste Sophie Douce s’est rendu au cœur des mangroves guinéennes, où la maladie est endémique. Elle y a rencontré des pêcheurs et un petit patient de 10 ans très malade, un « miraculé » heureusement diagnostiqué et soigné à temps. Elle a aussi discuté avec des scientifiques et des membres des équipes de dépistage qui parcourent la région pour identifier les patients et sensibiliser les populations.
