A decade of mycetoma advocacy and research: Lessons learned and the future

Join us on Thursday, 16 July 2026 for a webinar marking a decade since the World Health Organization (WHO) recognized mycetoma as a Neglected Tropical Disease (NTD). This event will explore the evolution of mycetoma research and development, address critical gaps in care, and tackle the funding policies shaping health equity across endemic regions.

Attendees can look forward to an exceptional lineup of global health leaders, including pioneering clinical researchers from the Mycetoma Research Centre, frontline public health advocates from DNDi and experts specializing in tropical medicine and patient-centered innovation.

Moderator: Emma Orefuwa, Director for Africa Programmes at the Global Action For Fungal Infections (GAFFI)

  • Prof. Ahmed Hassan Fahal, professor of surgery and founder of the Mycetoma Research Centre (MRC) at the University of Khartoum, Sudan
  • Dr. Nathalie Strub-Wourgaft, General Delegate for the PANTHER (Pandemic Preparedness Platform for Health and Emerging Infections’ Response)
  • Dr. Augustin Kadima Ebeja, NTD Medical Officer and Focal Point -Human African Trypanosomiasis & Mycetoma at WHO Regional office for Africa
  • Dr Borna Nyaoke-Anoke, medical doctor, researcher, public health specialist and the Head of Mycetoma Disease at Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative (DNDi)
  • John Ekai, medical lab technologist at Lodwar County Referral Hospital and a mycetoma community advocate in Turkana, Kenya
