Many diseases endemic to developing countries in the tropics are caused by parasites. An extraordinary number of these parasites were first discovered by Scottish scientists and doctors, many of whom were graduates of the University of Glasgow. This symposium, organized by the Wellcome Trust Centre for Molecular Parasitology will consider the contributions of Robert Leiper; William Leishman and Muriel Robertson; and the impacts their research has had in controlling disease in the world today.
DNDi‘s Head of Visceral Leishmaniasis, Jorge Alvar, presented on leishmaniasis in honour of the 150th anniversary of Prof. Sir William Boog Leishman.
