Meet Beni, a young boy from the Democratic Republic of Congo who survived sleeping sickness. His life changed after a tsetse fly bite transmitted this neglected disease, which attacks the central nervous system and can be fatal without timely treatment. He began falling asleep in class, picking fights, and was even asked to leave school.
Released on World Children's Day, our short film 'Beni: Surviving Sleeping Sickness' shows that it takes a village to save a child's live. Not all heroes were capes.
