Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative (DNDi) extends its deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Dr Marco Aurélio Krieger, a pivotal advocate for public health and innovation in Latin America.
Dr Krieger played a crucial role in strengthening and expanding DNDi’s partnership with the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz), a pioneering public health research institution and DNDi founding partner. As a dedicated member of the Dengue Alliance, he made tremendous contributions to fostering collaboration among public and private institutions, civil society organizations, research and development allies, and funding agencies to address the unmet needs of neglected populations. Today, Alliance partners around the world are united in their efforts to advance the scientific, technological, and medical innovations we need to prevent, diagnose, and treat dengue.
Dr Krieger’s legacy extends beyond his professional accomplishments. He inspired and mentored young researchers, generously sharing his knowledge and paving the way for a new generation of innovators. His spirit and commitment made him a symbol of hope and transformation for people who believe in the power of science to serve humanity.
Our team worldwide hope that Marco’s family, friends, and colleagues at Fiocruz find comfort in knowing that the path he forged will continue to contribute to progress in science and health and inspire future generations.
