Head of Disease, HAT
Dr Junior Matangila joined the esteemed team as the Senior Medical Manager in 2022, and was appointed as Head of Disease, HAT, the first of October 2024.
Junior is a Medical Doctor and specialist in Tropical Medicine. He completed his medical training at the University of Kinshasa, DRC, before furthering his studies with an MSc in One Health Molecular Biology from the Sokoine University of Agriculture, Tanzania in 2013. Junior then pursued his passion for infectious diseases research by obtaining a PhD in Malaria Prevention from the University of Antwerp, Belgium in 2016.
His expertise lies in the field of tropical infectious diseases, showcasing his commitment to addressing pressing health challenges in these areas. He has actively participated in various research projects focusing on diseases such as malaria and trypanosomiasis, as well as contributing to studies involving Ebola vaccine and COVID-19 trials. Additionally, he has been involved in teaching at the University of Kinshasa, sharing his expertise in tropical medicine with the next generation of medical professionals.
