South-South Leadership: Working together on medical R&D to meet the needs of all patients, the example of dengue

26 January 2022, 4 PM Bangkok

Online webinar

The Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative (DNDi), Siriraj Institute for Clinical Research (SICRES), and Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University hosted the DNDi South-East Asia Strategic Plan Launch webinar “South-South Leadership: Working together on medical R&D to meet the needs of all patients, the example of dengue”.

Last year, DNDi launched a new  Strategic Plan 2021-2028, charting a journey to deliver 15–18 treatments by 2028. South-East Asia is among the world’s most at-risk regions when it comes to the impact of global warming. The UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) warned in its report that the region is facing rising sea levels, heat waves, droughts, and increasingly intense rainstorms.

In a world that is constantly changing, what can we do for neglected and vulnerable patients in South-East Asia? What is needed for R&D partnerships? How can we deliver on our commitments to people whose diseases have been historically overlooked by the traditional R&D model?

To mark the launch of our new strategy, we were joined by a panel of experts to explore what it will take to deliver medical solutions for neglected patients and build an R&D system that leaves no one behind.
