Recent years have seen an alarming upsurge in dengue outbreaks all over the world, with over 11 million cases in Latin America in 2024 alone, a 200% increase over the previous year. This short film takes us to Brazil, one of the flashpoints of Latin America’s 2024 epidemic, as well as to Sri Lanka and Thailand, to show the devastating impact dengue outbreaks are having across the world.
‘Treating a feverish planet: The Dengue Alliance’ tells two stories – one of a climate-induced crisis threatening our future, and for which treatments are sorely lacking. But it also tells a story of hope, of scientists and researchers on the frontlines of dengue outbreaks that are joining forces and pooling their efforts to secure a healthier future.
But most of all, it is a film about the vulnerable communities that are all too often the most affected by climate-sensitive neglected diseases.
Produced by Scholars Film and shot in Brazil, Sri Lanka, and Thailand by Greg Lomas, Jared Hinde, Fábio Nascimento, Adrian Callan, and Luke Duggleby.
