Summary: This review highlights the status of the COVID-19 pandemic through the lens of health equity and access. The authors provide a list of recommendations requiring a combination of short-term (one-year) and mid-term (multi-year) actions. These actions encompass areas of knowledge sharing, health system strengthening, capacity building and training, global governance, and international diplomacy, which are urgently needed to achieve effective global COVID-19 vaccine and therapeutic security, justice, and equity.
