Sekumpulan ahli sains, pakar perubatan, penyumbang dana dan penggubal dasar daripada lebih 70 institusi di lebih 30 negara telah melancarkan satu gabungan antarabangsa sebagai gerak balas kepada wabak COVID-19 dalam keadaan berkekangan sumber. COVID-19 Clinical Research Coalition bertujuan untuk mempercepatkan kajian berkenaan COVID-19 yang sangat diperlukan di kawasan di mana virus berkenaan boleh melumpuhkan sistem kesihatan yang sedia lemah serta mengakibatkan impak kesihatan yang besar di populasi yang mudah terjejas.

Dalam satu komentar yang diterbitkan hari ini dalam jurnal perubatan The Lancet, ahli-ahli Gabungan berkenaan menyatakan, gabungan penyelidikan antarabangsa serta penyelarasan perlu bagi menyokong negara-negara di Afrika, Amerika Latin, Eropah Timur, serta sesetengah negara Asia untuk memberi gerak balas berkesan terhadap pandemik yang semakin teruk ini, dan mempercepatkan kerja-kerja penyelidikan dalam keadaan bersumber terhad.

Gabungan berkenaan mengumpulkan pakar-pakar kesihatan daripada pelbagai bidang, termasuk institusi penyelidikan sektor awam, kementerian kesihatan, akademia, organisasi penyelidikan dan pembangunan bukan berasaskan keuntungan, badan bukan kerajaan (NGO), organisasi antarabangsa serta penyumbang dana yang kesemuanya komited untuk mencari solusi untuk COVID-19 dalam keadaan berkekangan sumber.

Satu gerak balas penyelidikan penting untuk COVID-19 telah dilancarkan iaitu ujian klinikal ‘SOLIDARITY’ yang dipimpin Pertubuhan Kesihatan Sedunia (WHO), satu usaha global yang tidak pernah dilakukan sebelum ini. Namun para pengarang komentar berkenaan mendapati, daripada hampir 600 ujian klinikal yang didaftarkan untuk COVID-19, cuma sedikit dirancang berjalan di kawasan berkekangan sumber. Mereka bertekad untuk berkongsi kepakaran teknikal serta keupayaan ujian klinikal bagi mempercepatkan penyelidikan COVID-19 dalam keadaan sedemikian.

Cabaran ini jelas di luar skop mana-mana organisasi tunggal. Gabungan berkenaan akan memudahkan pendekatan yang selaras, agar kesemua data dari serata dunia dapat diperoleh dengan cara yang sama, dikumpulkan dan dikongsi secara langsung. Ini akan membantu negara-negara berkenaan serta WHO untuk membuat keputusan berdasarkan bukti nyata yang pantas berkenaan dasar serta pelaksanaan.

“Kami mengalu-alukan pelancaran gabungan ini, yang memanfaatkan kepakaran dari pelbagai negara dan bidang, bagi menjalankan ujian klinikal dalam persekitaran bersumber terhad, yang mana akan membantu Pertubuhan Kesihatan Sedunia (WHO) dalam peranannya untuk menyelaraskan gerak balas global terhadap COVID-19,” kata Dr. Soumya Swaminathan, Ketua Saintis WHO. “Meskipun wabak ini berpusat di tempat lain, kita harus bersiap sedia untuk sebarang akibat daripada pandemik ini dalam keadaan berkekangan sumber, atau kita akan kehilangan lebih banyak nyawa.”

Anggota-anggota Gabungan menyeru komitmen khusus untuk memastikan akses, agar rawatan baru yang berkesan dapat ditawarkan secepat mungkin di kawasan bersumber terhad, serta mampu milik dan boleh didapati semua.
