O Ministério da Saúde do Brasil, a Fundação Oswaldo Cruz (FIOCRUZ) e a iniciativa Medicamentos para Doenças Negligenciadas (DNDi) na América Latina na luta contra as Doenças Negligenciadas através de Parceria para Pesquisa e Desenvolvimento

Na cerimônia de abertura do XVIII Congresso Internacional de Medicina Tropical e Malária (ICTMM, nas suas siglas em inglês) e XLVIII Congresso da Sociedade Brasileira de Medicina Tropical no Rio de Janeiro o Ministério da Saúde assinou acordo de cooperação e assistência técnica com a Fundação Oswaldo Cruz (FIOCRUZ) e a iniciativa Medicamentos para Doenças Negligenciadas (DNDi) América Latina, unindo os três atores a uma parceria estratégica para colaborar em pesquisa e desenvolvimento (P&D) para novas terapias e diagnósticos para doenças negligenciadas.

O Secretario de Ciência, Tecnologia e Insumos Estratégicos (SCTIE, Carlos Gadelha, o presidente da FIOCRUZ, Paulo Gadelha, e o Diretor Executivo da DNDi América Latina, Eric Stobbaerts, assinaram acordo na presença de mais de 1,000 integrantes do congresso. Ao comprometer recursos para esta parceria, o Ministério da Saúde irá realizar a sua estratégia para P&D em doenças negligenciadas definida no começo do ano. A estratégia tem como objetivo impulsionar inovações no campo das doenças negligenciadas e providenciar novas ferramentas de saúde para os programas de saúde pública no Brasil.

-´Temos a honra de fazer parte desta parceria estratégica que permitirá que a DNDi e o seu parceiro fundador Brasileiro, a FIOCRUZ, coordenem e fortaleçam esforços para atender às necessidades urgentes de pacientes que sofrem de doenças negligenciadas na região’, disse Eric Stobbaerts, Diretor da DNDi América Latina. ´Este acordo irá pavimentar o caminho para um novo mecanismo de P&D liderado pelo Brasil, que visa trazer inovação local para a saúde pública global. ´

Sobre a DNDi

A iniciativa Medicamentos para Doenças Negligenciadas (DNDi) é uma organização de pesquisa e desenvolvimento sem fins lucrativos que trabalha para oferecer novos tratamentos para doenças negligenciadas, em especial a doença do sono (tripanossomíase humana Africano), doença de Chagas, leishmaniose, filarioses específicas, malária e HIV pediátrico. A DNDi foi criada em 2003 por Médecins Sans Frontières/Médicos Sem Fronteiras (MSF), Fundação Oswaldo Cruz (FIOCRUZ) do Brasil, Conselho Indiano de Pesquisa Médica (ICMR), Instituto de Pesquisa Médica do Quênia (KEMRI), Ministério da Saúde da Malásia, e Instituto Pasteur da França.O Programa Especial da OMS para Pesquisa de Doenças Tropicais (WHO / TDR) trabalha como um observador permanente. Desde 2003, a DNDi entregou seis novos tratamentos para pacientes negligenciados: dois antimaláricos em dose fixa (ASAQ e ASMQ), a terapia combinada nifurtimox‐eflornitina (NECT) para a fase final da doença do sono, terapia combinada estibogluconato de sódio e paromomicina (SSG & PM) para leishmaniose visceral na África, um conjunto de terapias de combinação para a leishmaniose visceral na Ásia, e uma nova apresentação pediátrica do benznidazol para a doença de Chagas.

A DNDi tem ajudado a estabelecer três plataformas de pesquisa clínica: Plataforma de Leishmaniose na África Oriental (LEAP), no Quênia, Etiópia, Sudão e Uganda; Plataforma HAT com base na República Democrática do Congo para a doença do sono, e Plataforma de Pesquisa Clínica em Doença de Chagas na América Latina. Redes regionais fortes como essas ajudam a fortalecer a investigação e as capacidades de implementação de tratamento de nos países endêmicos.
