As one of the world’s most accomplished turntablists, DJ Logic is widely credited for introducing jazz into the hip-hop realms and is a highly respected session musician and innovative bandleader. Emerging in the early nineties amidst the Bronx hip-hop scene, he has collaborated with a range of musicians, including John Mayer, Ben Harper, Mos Def and the Roots, Laurie Anderson, Carly Simon, Jack Johnson, Sean Kuti, Vernon Reid, Bernie Worrell, Christian McBride, MMW, Marcus Miller, Master Musicians of Jajauka, Miles Electric Band, Grateful Dead, and many more.
Falu Shah
Internationally recognized for her rare ability to seamlessly blend a signature modern inventive style with a formidable Indian classically-shaped vocal talent, Falu Shah has performed with Yo-Yo Ma, Wyclef Jean, Philip Glass, Ricky Martin, Blues Traveler, and A. R. Rahman, among others. She was appointed Carnegie Hall’s Ambassador of Indian Music in 2006; performed for President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama at the White House; and was the featured performer at the Time 100 gala.
Mino Cinelu
Legend is an understatement. Sit with master-of-all-trades Mino Cinélu in any café and more likely than not, a record will come on that he’s played on. Sting, Miles Davis, Weather Report, Herbie Hancock, Peter Gabriel, Stevie Wonder, Lou Reed, Vicente Amigo, Bonnie Raitt, Kate Bush, Elton John, Pat Metheny, Taylor Dane, Branford Marsalis, and Cassandra Wilson are just a tiny selection of the international pop and jazz stars that Mino has worked with since the 80’s. And as Sting says, “Mino can make anybody dance.”
Foday Musa Suso
Foday Musa Suso is an internationally recognized musician and a Mandingo griot (oral historian) from Gambia. A direct descendent of the griot who invented the kora over four centuries ago, Foday began to play the kora even before he could hold the instrument on his own. Today he is one of the world’s leading kora musicians, and has performed with Herbie Hancock, Philip Glass, Bill Laswell, Paul Simon, Pharoah Sanders, the Kronos Quartet, and Jack de Johnette, among others. He has co-written movie soundtracks with Philip Glass and has performed at Carnegie Hall, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Lincoln Center, and the Barbican Centre.
Constant Boty
Ivorian guitarist Constant Boty has found his niche perfecting a fine mix of West African folkloric music, European classical, jazz, and electronic music, having recorded with artists as diverse as saxophonist Greg Osby, pianists James Weidman and Benito Gonzalez, drummers Poogie Bell and Jerome Jennings, clarinetist Oran Etkin, bassist Solomon Dorsey, and bassist Calvin Jones, among others. He has performed with the International Jazz Day and regularly performs as a solo act and with his band, the Guru Guru Project. Boty also teaches jazz, guitar, and West African folkloric music and tribal drumming across Europe and Africa.
