Evidence for impact

Bridging knowledge gaps to bring innovation to life

Alongside our work to discover and develop new treatments, our teams and partners work to generate the knowledge needed to ensure that medical innovations ultimately translate into real-world benefit for patients. From investigating barriers to treatment access and equitable participation in research to conducting epidemiological studies in underserved regions, these complementary studies centre on understanding health system realities and community perspectives to ensure new treatments meet the needs of patients and the health systems they rely on.

In collaboration with communities, ministries of health, and local research partners, our teams work to fill critical data gaps and generate the insights that DNDi and partners use to design inclusive clinical trials, develop robust treatment access strategies, and respond directly to patients’ needs and preferences.

Dengue seroprevalence / burden studies

DNDi and partners are conducting a retrospective dengue seroprevalence study in Senegal and in selected cities in Ghana and the DRC to improve estimates of the disease’s burden in Africa

Acceptability of contraceptive use in NTD-endemic regions

In collaboration with local and international partners, DNDi is conducting a multi-country study in endemic regions of Kenya, Brazil, and Colombia to assess the acceptability of medically indicated contraceptive use among women of childbearing age.

Visceral leishmaniasis burden among Pokot pastoralists

Focusing on the pastoralist community of West Pokot, Kenya, which faces a high burden of visceral leishmaniasis, this project aims to determine the burden, risk factors, and knowledge, attitudes, and practices associated with the disease.

Integrated strategies for mycetoma prevention and management: A social-behavioural change approach

This project aims to assess the social, behavioural, and economic factors influencing the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and management of mycetoma in Turkana County, Kenya.

Estimating the burden of mycetoma: A cross-sectional community-based study

In four regions of Ethiopia, DNDi is working to assess the prevalence of mycetoma, fill critical knowledge gaps regarding local aetiology, and inform planning for future clinical trials.

Estimating the burden of mycetoma: A retrospective analysis of hospital records

This retrospective study aims to generate crucial data on the burden, distribution, clinical presentation, and current management of mycetoma to inform research and prevention efforts and inform planning for a new clinical trial.
