Summary: Libraries of structurally diverse compounds allow the influence of molecular structure on bioactivity to be assessed. In partnership with DNDi, researchers at the University of Washington designed a project to generate data around a 2,N3-disubstituted 4-quinazolinone with promising activity against T. cruzi, the parasite that causes Chagas disease, that would also offer rich training opportunities for undergraduate students. Fifteen unique 2,N3-disubstituted 4-quinazolinones were prepared in four steps from commercially available materials and preliminary biological studies indicate potential for further investigation and design of new targets.
