The Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative (DNDi) is an international, not-for-profit research and development (R&D) organization that develops and delivers new treatments for neglected diseases that affect millions of the world’s poorest people.

Together with more than 200 public research and industry allies worldwide, we use the power of partnership, innovation, open science, and advocacy to find solutions to a great injustice: the lack of medicines for life-threatening diseases that disproportionately impact poor and marginalized people. Driven by collaboration, not competition, and by patients’ needs, not profits, we promote equitable access, foster inclusive and sustainable solutions, and advocate for a more effective global biomedical R&D system that meets the needs of neglected patients.

Since our inception, DNDi has delivered twelve new treatments for people with sleeping sickness, visceral leishmaniasis, Chagas disease, HIV, hepatitis C, and malaria that have saved millions of lives. We now aim to deliver an additional 11-14 new treatments by 2028 – addressing R&D gaps for neglected tropical diseases and viral infections, including new pandemic-prone diseases (such as COVID19) and climate-sensitive diseases (such as dengue) with a focus on the needs of patients in low- and middle-income countries.

The position

Do you want to be part of a motivated, diverse, mission-oriented, and global team deeply committed to global health equity? We are seeking a Senior Individual Giving Manager who is ready to take ownership of a growing program and influence its future growth and direction. You should enjoy the challenge and reward of outreach to new donors and have outstanding communication and relationship-building skills.

You will need to be equally comfortable working in a small team in the U.S. and being a key part of an international team working to maximize DNDi’s private philanthropic income. Our goal is to at least triple annual private income from the U.S. in the next five years, including a strong focus on developing our flexible funding capabilities.

Specific job responsibilities

  • Oversee the development of mail and digital donor communications and appeals, working with an external fundraising agency and in collaboration with the global Communications team
  • Manage donor retention and stewardship, identifying opportunities to engage qualified donors and promote them up the giving ladder
  • Lead on the development, production and implementation of new donor acquisition campaigns and strategy, working with an external fundraising agency
  • Identify and implement additional opportunities to broaden DNDI’s donor base including through employee giving, mid-level donor stewardship programs and gifts in wills.
  • Monitor and analyze performance to identify opportunities and maximize the value of existing campaigns.
  • Act as Salesforce and donor data lead for the global fundraising team in relation to Salesforce harmonization and improvements and data privacy
  • Manage harmonization of global (ex-US) individual giving processes and stewardship to ensure DNDI’s global donors receive the same level of stewardship and service as those in the US
  • Provide reliable and timely reporting, data and trend analysis in support of the global fundraising team as needed
  • Lead a small team based in the U.S.

Skills and experience

The successful candidate will be a self-starter keen to play a pivotal role in developing DNDi’s individual giving revenue. You will have:

  • Minimum 8 years’ relevant experience working in or managing an individual giving team, including experience planning, managing and executing direct mail and digital campaigns, working with external suppliers and agencies to ensure projects are delivered effectively.
  • A track record of building fundraising growth in supporter acquisition, development, supporter retention. Experience launching new programs or building a small program would be highly regarded.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Familiarity with Salesforce or Salesforce NPSP would be highly regarded.
  • Expertise using data analysis for insights and growth.
  • Proven management skills and exceptional interpersonal skills, with the ability and interest to work collaboratively with internal colleagues across time zones and cultures
  • In-depth knowledge of data privacy and fundraising best practice standards and processes.
  • Passion for DNDi’s mission and a demonstrated understanding of or interest in global health issues.

Internal management and interactions

Reporting line

  • Reports directly to the Head of Global Private Sector Fundraising, based in Switzerland.
  • North America Executive Director serves as Contributing Manager.

Management

  • Supervises the work of a Development Associate and provides direction to entry-level staff and interns, including a part-time Development Officer (shared with other staff).
  • Works with direct manager and reports to develop an annual plan with strategies, goals, timetable, and performance benchmarks.

Salary and benefits

Salary range: 100k- 120k. Generous benefits package, including health insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, 30 vacation days, 15 days of sick leave, and contributions to individuals’ 403(b) plans. 

Other information

  • Status: This role is a 2-year fixed term contract with potential for renewal.
  • Some international travel may be required
  • As part of a global organization, some regular out-of-hours calls will be required
