Dr Shahnaz Murad was formerly the Deputy Director-General of Health (Research and Technical Support), Ministry of Health Malaysia. Prior to this she was Director of the Institute for Medical Research, Director of SEAMEO-TROPMED Regional Centre, National Head of the Pathology Service for the Ministry of Health and the Executive Officer for the Inter-Islamic Network for Tropical Medicine (INTROM).
Dr Shahnaz graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 1985. She has worked in the Ministry of Health for more than 25 years. Prior to becoming the director of the IMR, she was head of the Allergy and Immunology Research Centre at the IMR. Her field of specialization is immunology. She established a large number of specialised diagnostic tests in the field of immunology and established the allergy diagnostic service for the Ministry of Health. She established the Malaysian Stem Cell Donor Registry in 2000. She has a large number of publications in International Journals in the field of Immunogenetics and Allergy.
