ASMQ,
the new co-formulation of artesunate (AS) and mefloquine (MQ) manufactured by
Farmanguinhos/Fiocruz, was developed by a worldwide public partnership coordinated by DNDi.Visit ASMQ dedicated website:

- a simple regimen for children and adults that is as easy as 1-2-3:
a single daily dose of one or two tablets over three days
- ASMQ was successfully registered in Brazil in March 2008, and was used by
Brazilian national authorities as part of an intervention study with remarkable results
- ASMQ will be soon available in other countries in Latin America and Southeast Asia
- Further clinical research is being conducted on the potential therapeutic value of
ASMQ in pregnancy and is being planned to examine its potential role in Africa
"The admission of this medication in the Brazilian Malaria Control Program aggregates an absolutely significant value, and we already have positive results to show, as for example, the reduction, from 2006 to 2007, of 150,000 to 93,000 cases of P. falciparum malaria, and also the number of hospital admissions, that dropped from 9,500 in 2006 to 6,300 in 2007”.
